This is another major breakthrough in the structural adjustment of rubber auxiliaries after the outstanding varieties of the main products such as antioxidants and accelerators dominated in 2004.
Xu Chunhua said that NOBS is the focus of the adjustment of the rubber chemicals industry in recent years. It has replaced the NOBS and reduced NOBS with the excellent sulfenamide accelerator NS (N-tert-butyl-2-benzothiazole sulfenamide). Proportion and output have always been the direction of the industry's efforts. In 2004, the output of NOBS began to be controlled. The best product that replaced NOBS was NS production exceeded NOBS for the first time. The performance of excellent sulfenamide accelerator was more than 50%, while the antioxidants accounted for 80% of the total antioxidant. This is the first breakthrough in the structural adjustment of rubber chemicals in China. In 2006, the production of NOBS was basically controlled. The NS output increased significantly to 25,100 tons. The production ratio of NS and NOBS changed from 0.23:1 at the end of the Ninth Five-Year Plan period to 2.5:1. However, due to the effective use of NOBS, its production has not declined, but increased from 0.34 million tons in 2000 to 0.95 million tons in 2005, and slightly increased to 10,000 tons in 2006. With multiple efforts, NOBS production in 2007 finally began to decline, from 10,000 tons in 2006 to 0.6 million tons.
According to Xu Chunhua's analysis, the decline in NOBS production can be attributed to several reasons: First, downstream users are paying more and more attention to nitrosamine carcinogenicity problems. Many rubber processing companies have begun to automatically eliminate NOBS in their formulations. With less demand, the production of NOBS will be reduced accordingly. Second, auxiliaries have consciously reduced production or stopped production of NOBS. At the same time, the scale of NS production of various companies has continued to expand. At present, the NS production scale in the industry is also more than 5,000 tons. The largest 10,000-ton NS production plant in China is basically completed in Yanggu Huatai, which has played a positive role in adjusting the product structure of accelerators for the industry. Third, with the decline in the price of tert-butylamine as raw material for NS, the price of NS is already almost the same as that of NOBS. In some regions, the price of NS is still lower than that of NOBS, and the price advantage begins to show.
