At the "China Society of Automotive Engineers 40th Anniversary Celebration Conference" and 2003 China Automotive Engineering Academic Annual Meeting, experts and scholars from large domestic and foreign automobile enterprise groups, scientific research institutes, and universities and colleges worked on the first line of automotive research and production. More than 300 representatives of scientific and technological workers, domestic foreign-funded enterprises and private enterprises gathered in Beijing for academic exchanges and scientific and technological achievements. At this grand event in the automotive science and technology industry, the cry for “improving the gold content of Chinese cars and making Chinese cars bigger and stronger†has become increasingly strong, but we fully feel that China’s becoming a car power can’t be a “quick winâ€. "War" is a "protracted war" with a rather long process.
Yield and gold content we all need
According to the person in charge of the Organizing Committee of the General Assembly, the number of companies and groups participating in this academic annual meeting was large and the range involved was beyond the expectation of the general public, PSA, PSA Peugeot Citroen, Toyota, Cummins, Bosch and other internationally renowned automobile companies have brought forward cutting-edge scientific and technological achievements to attend the conference. There are also domestic auto companies of different levels to display their high-tech products. What deserves special mention is that some of the smaller auto parts companies in China, in order to perceive the latest technology in the world, in order to obtain this rare opportunity for communication and exchange, and also to integrate their products into the big market of international procurement, They do not hesitate to win this meeting. A representative of a private enterprise that produces automatic transmission told reporters in this way: “Although we and some companies attending the conference may be competitors, we need cooperation first, communication, and cooperation, so we need sufficient technology. In addition, China’s autos have been integrated into the world, and as a private company, we also need to find more markets and more opportunities.Chinese autos can't just stay in the manufacturing and production sectors. In the pursuit of production, we also Looking forward to our own technology, we must highlight the gold content of our products. Only by continuously strengthening our own technological level and R&D capabilities can Chinese cars be truly powerful."
China is still far from the car power
Looking at the history of the growth of Chinese automobiles for decades, from 100,000 cars in production in 1971 to 200,000 in 1980, 1 million in 1992, and 3 million in 2002, production is expected to be realized this year. After 4 million vehicles, by 2010, this number will exceed 10 million. The rapid rise of the automobile manufacturing industry not only enabled the automotive industry to complete the transition from "supporting" to "protagonist" in the development of China's national economy, but also established China's position as a major automobile manufacturing country in the world. Judging from the ranking of global auto production, the world’s ten largest car-producing countries in the year 2000 were the United States, Japan, Germany, France, South Korea, Spain, Canada, Italy, Brazil, and Mexico. China was ranked 11th; in 2002, China’s It has surpassed six countries including Italy, Brazil, Mexico, South Korea, Spain and Canada to leap to the fifth place in the world; it is expected to surpass France this year to become the world’s fourth-largest producer; the National Bureau of Statistics also boldly predicts that: In 2005, China’s automobile production will exceed Germany and become the world’s third largest automobile manufacturer.
Although China is now among the ranks of the world's largest automakers, it is clear that we cannot yet be considered a car power. When Fu Yuwu, executive vice chairman and secretary-general of the Chinese Society of Automotive Engineers, said in an exclusive interview with this reporter recently, similar to the development path of China’s motorcycle industry, China’s autos have continued to break through in terms of output, but they have made products more competitive. As far as the strength of the company and other aspects are concerned, we are still far from the dream of a car powerhouse.
First of all, our country’s technology accumulation and technical support system is obviously not enough. This is not only the understanding of the automotive industry and the Chinese automotive science and technology community. Even the entire society generally believes that China is still quite weak in independent development. "Independent development" is a long, arduous process that needs to be accumulated. Although the Chinese auto industry has gone through a 50-year history, the real big changes have only occurred in the past 10 years. In the more long period of 10 years before this, the products and technologies seen by the technicians of the automotive engineering industry in China are still quite limited. They are at the initial stage of exploration. Therefore, the "practice-accumulation-improvement-recreation" process is a must for our country's auto development.
Second, China's market opening degree is still not enough, and the company's awareness and ideas have yet to be improved. Although China has joined the WTO, we have not really faced fierce, even cruel market competition. Only a full market competition environment can enable enterprises to fundamentally implement innovation. Only in this way can the company's core competitiveness be strengthened.
Third, the birth of a powerful automobile country requires a social process. China's entire vehicle project is backward, in addition to China's auto industry is relatively weak self-development capabilities, there is an important reason - we have not yet formed a large and solid component base. There are currently two or three thousand auto parts companies in China, but it faces the tide of global procurement and the modularized mode of operation. China's auto parts industry seems to be more vulnerable than the entire vehicle project. Therefore, only by making China's auto parts industry bigger, stronger, and refined, China's entire vehicle project and the entire automotive industry's products may participate in higher-level competition.
Fourth, due to the immature development of the Chinese market, the legalization of the market is still in progress. The technical standards and technical regulations of China’s auto industry have not yet fully integrated with the international standards. We have not yet been able to master the rules of the game that are universal in the world, and even some of them. Technical standards are still lagging behind.
In the end, Fu Yuwu emphasized that on the whole, the gap between Chinese autos and the international community is still relatively large. The shortening of this gap depends on the gritty efforts of this generation of automakers and even several generations of automakers. By then, China’s dream of a strong automobile country will be realized.
Divided into two steps, "Living to loneliness for 20 years"
How can China jump from a thin car manufacturing country to a car power? Zhang Xiaozheng, head of the China Automotive Industry Bureau, recently proposed a two-step development strategy in a special report. He pointed out that China's automobile industry has to undergo two stages of development from a manufacturing powerhouse to an industrial powerhouse: in the first 10 years, it is committed to do a good job of restructuring the auto industry, and in the next 10 years it should make breakthroughs in the high-tech field.
To this point of view, Fu Yu expressed his approval. He analyzed that the automobile industry is a converged industry. The fields involved are quite wide and closely related to many industries. Therefore, its development cannot rely solely on the industry’s own space. And must rely on the support of various industries in society. The development of the automobile industry cannot be achieved overnight. It must overcome the impetuous mood of quick success and instant profit. Only by laying a solid and solid foundation, many high-tech methods can be reflected in the industry, and it will play an active role. China's automobile industry may achieve historical results. breakthrough.
Wu Yanfeng, general manager of FAW Group, once said that Chinese cars must withstand loneliness for 20 years, hard work for 20 years, and then talk about world heroes. Fu Yuwu said that if we want to become a powerful automobile country, we must take a big step forward and have a long way to go. This will not be achieved within a few years. I am afraid that after several generations of automakers’ efforts, there will be too much. Many things need us to do it in a down-to-earth manner. I believe that Chinese cars will not be lonely within 20 years.
