The future of domestic passenger car technology presents three major trends still centered on customer needs

Will the Chinese dream of cars be the first to be realized in the field of passenger cars?

From the current point of view, the bus industry is indeed an automotive segment that is most likely to realize the Chinese dream. First of all, the independent brand firmly occupies the mainstream position of the domestic passenger car industry. In addition, both the passenger car technology and the manufacturing manufacturing process have a small difference from the passenger car industry of the developed countries in the world.

In the global field, what level is China's passenger car industry? Has it surpassed European and American technology? What are its future technological trends? This question was answered in an exclusive interview with Yu Tung, Deputy Director of Yutong Bus Technology and Dean of Technical Research Institute.

Three-step development of the domestic passenger car industry has entered the world's forefront

In Tang Wang’s view, to accurately understand the Chinese bus industry, the key is to understand the development history of the Chinese bus industry. "The history of the development of the Chinese bus industry can be divided into three phases."

Tang Wang believes that the first stage is the era of Enlightenment, from about 1960 to about 1990. “For historical reasons, the passenger bus industry in China has experienced a long period of time at this stage. At that time, the domestic passenger car products mainly consisted of the chassis of a passenger car converted from a truck chassis. The front of the engine was of a single type and its technical performance was relatively backward.”

“But at this stage, China has also developed some dedicated passenger vehicle chassis, such as the National Organization Research Institute and other technical forces to develop a dedicated chassis for the JT6120 passenger vehicle. Unfortunately, due to the immature technology, these models have not been put into production in batches. However, some of the technologies used in these chassis later became the standard for passenger cars, and the design ideas have sprouted, such as rear engine, full load body, air suspension, double curvature panoramic windshield, etc.” For the first stage Achievements, Tang Wang followed and added.

Tang Wang will be called the second phase of the development of China's bus industry, from 1990 to 2010. “At this stage, the Chinese passenger car industry entered a period of rapid development, characterized by the gradual withdrawal of the traditional truck chassis. After 2000, the truck chassis gradually withdrew from the passenger car market. As a result, the chassis of self-developed dedicated passenger cars gradually matured. The varieties gradually improved, product performance gradually improved, the body structure gradually improved, and product reliability also met the requirements for normal use.”

Tang Wang gave an example to reporters. For example, the Yutong Bus was built during this period. It completed the frame technology from straight beams and three-sections to fully loaded car bodies. The suspension also went from leaf springs to springs, and then to the suspension. Air suspension changes.

"After 2010, the Chinese bus industry will gradually enter the third phase, that is, the relative lead time. This is a process that changes from quantity to quality." Tang Wang believes that "in the third stage, the Chinese bus industry has Has a certain influence.”

In this regard, Tang Wang example, for example, China has reached a global leading level in the field of new energy passenger cars. "In 2012 alone, the total sales of new energy buses reached more than 6,000 vehicles, and regular buses received a lot of orders in the European region."

Still not overloaded with European and domestic customer needs

Although China’s bus industry has gradually had a greater influence in the world, Tang Wang believes that the advantages of Chinese buses are relative, and does not mean that they have completely caught up with or surpassed Europe. “It is only gradually entering the leading echelon.”

Tang Wang believes that China's bus companies are market-centric and target their customers' needs and take a different path from the European passenger car industry. The European passenger car has been moving toward a purely technical route, overemphasizing technology and developing technology to the extreme, resulting in a situation of excess technology, and the phenomenon of high bus prices. "I once took a setra high-end business bus in Europe and the price was 550,000 euros. It is very difficult for Chinese users to afford such an expensive bus."

Tang Wang said that China's bus companies are taking a demand around the market, creating a vehicle that satisfies the conditions of China's roads, and has low cost, safety, reliability, comfort, and easy maintenance. "Because in China, passenger cars are a kind of means of production, not consumption data. Therefore, in the production of vehicles, bus companies must have a good grasp of 'lightness and weight' in pursuit of technological perfection and economy."

Tang Wang told reporters that for product research, Yutong buses are centered on and oriented to the needs of customers, but they sometimes need to guide users in the direction of technological development and expertise. "Yutong also has an independent product planning and technical plan. Because as a bus professional company, we are more professional than the user in some aspects, and more clearly the development trend of the industry."

“For example, in the field of active safety for passenger cars, due to the advantages of the company, we can predict the development trend of active safety in advance, conduct a large-scale pre-study and test in the technical field, and finally achieve full technical preparation and gradually guide it. The market understands the importance of active safety.” Tang Wangyue sees that under the guidance of Yutong buses, many customers are gradually realizing the importance of active safety.

The industry leading boss Yutong Bus has always been a leader in the domestic passenger car market. As a technical expert of Yutong Bus, how does Tang Wang decide the future technology trend of domestic passenger cars?

For the grasp of the development trend of China's overall passenger car market, Tang Wang frankly stated that Yutong buses are more concerned with the development direction of three passenger car technologies. “The first is still passenger car safety, including active safety and passive safety. He believes that passenger car safety will “focus more on active safety, passive safety is limited, and the prospect of active safety is broader. ”

“The second is energy-saving passenger cars, which means products other than new energy buses.” Tang Wang believes there is still room for passenger cars to save energy. “For 12-meter long-distance highway Yutong’s passenger car fuel consumption has now been reduced to 20L/100KM or less, mainly through Yutong engine thermal management systems, green zone systems and vehicle network management and other technical measures.

Tang Wang pointed out that the third perspective is the intelligent aspects of passenger cars. “At present, the intelligent technology of Chinese passenger cars is developing rapidly, and some technologies are basically synchronized with Europe, such as lane departure warning systems (LDWS) and body electronic stability systems (ESP).”

“For example, Yutong’s “Green Zone” system is based on the engine operating point and the vehicle's driving status. This system can actively correct non-standard operations when the driver illegally operates, for example, the driver suddenly increases the throttle, increases fuel consumption, through intelligence. Control, the engine will take the initiative to 'shield' this illegal operation.” Although Yutong’s publicity on intelligence is relatively small, Tang Wang still believes that intelligence will become a major trend for passenger cars in the future.
