Instead, trees on both sides of the street provide light sources for the streets at night. Dr. Su from Taiwan said gold nanoparticles injected into the trees can induce red light on the leaves of plants. The plant's light-emitting process does not emit toxic chemicals like phosphors compared to current more economical LED lighting. If this technology can be promoted, street lighting can not only save energy, but also increase the chances of plants absorbing carbon dioxide and helping to improve the urban living environment.
