South Korea research and development of new OLED: can do clothes, thinner than hair
Prof. kyung cheol choi and his team from Korea Institute of Electrical Engineering have made remarkable achievements in ultra-thin light-emitting diodes. The study led by PhD Candidate Seonil Kwon was published online on December 6 in the International Nano Magazine and Nano Express. According to the team's prediction, this efficient and long-lasting light-emitting diode technology will be widely used in wearable displays. The current wearable display is generally based on an OLED screen. Due to the size limitation of the wearable device, the existing screen cannot achieve a good display effect. To solve this problem, the kyung team designed an OLED structure that can be compatible with fibers. By dipping the fiber in a three-dimensional structure, the team successfully designed fiber-based OLED light-emitting diodes. The team also confirmed that this fiber organic diode withstands 4.3% tensile strain while maintaining a 90% smooth current efficiency. Moreover, they can weave into textiles and knitted garments without causing any problems. In addition, this technology allows the production of organic diodes on fibers that are thinner than human hair. It should be noted that all work is performed at a low temperature of minus 105 degrees. Prof. Choi said: "The current wearable displays have limitations in applicability due to their low performance. However, this technology can produce high-performance optical fiber organic diodes. This simple, low-cost process is Fiber optic wearable displays have opened up a commercial road."
