(2) Example of milling of graphite materials A comparison test of the cutting performance of DCB diamond-coated ball end mills (R3) and uncoated carbide ball end mills was carried out using a flat-milled graphite plate. Scanning electron microscopy was used to partially magnify the cutting edge, and it was found that there were vertical wear marks on the cutting edge, and diamond remained on the cutting edge. However, no peeling of the diamond coating was found, and it was confirmed that the diamond coating had excellent bonding strength. The amount of wear on the ball head R is plotted as a curve. The tip of the ball was set to 0°, the point of connection between the ball and the outer circle was set to 90°, and the part was cut into the part from the tip to 50° (corresponding to Ad). It can be determined that the amount of wear of the uncoated end mill R is 30 μm, while the R wear of the diamond coated end mill is only 1 to 2 μm, and the wear resistance is 20 times that of the uncoated mill.
