BorgWarner's new technology can effectively reduce diesel commercial vehicle emissions

BorgWarner's new exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) technology reduces nitrogen oxide emissions and can help meet the increasingly stringent global emission standards for medium and heavy diesel and commercial vehicles.

The continuous recirculation of exhaust gases combined with the mixture of air and fuel reduces combustion temperatures and reduces nitrogen oxide emissions. The new electronically controlled Butterfly EGR valve from BorgWarner not only controls precision and reflects sensitivity, but also has large flow, strong sealing, corrosion resistance, and reliable operation in extreme environments. This technology will join hands with a leading commercial vehicle engine manufacturer in 2010.

“The development trend of diesel engines for commercial vehicles has made EGR systems more widely available. This trend-compliant advanced technology can meet more stringent emission standards,” said Roger Wood, president of BorgWarner Engine Group. "BorgWarner is a leader in turbocharger and exhaust gas recirculation systems, and our technical expertise can well meet the growing demand in this market segment."

The BorgWarner electronic butterfly EGR valve consists of a brushless DC motor and a gear train to achieve higher exhaust gas circulation speed and accuracy, as well as more responsive control. Among them, the gear transmission mechanism has proved its robustness and reliability in the turbocharger application. Brushless motors provide better durability and a higher ratio of power to weight. Sensors in the motor provide feedback to a closed-loop control system to accurately position the valve to ensure precise control of the recirculated gas. All key components, including housings and valves, are made of stainless steel for corrosion resistance. The butterfly valve design provides excellent sealing and reliable operation in the harsh environment of diesel exhaust systems.

The BorgWarner Butterfly EGR valve technology can be used not only in diesel commercial vehicles but also in diesel passenger vehicles; it can be easily integrated with EGR coolers and cooler bypass valves.

BorgWarner Turbo & Emissions Systems is the world's leading manufacturer of turbochargers, exhaust gas recirculation valves and other engine air management systems for passenger cars, light trucks and commercial vehicles. Its technology and products are dedicated to improving fuel economy, reducing emissions and enhancing vehicle performance.
