Differences in accumulated temperature required for growth of different cotton varieties

Different cotton varieties and different varieties of the same cotton seed have certain requirements on the accumulated temperature. Generally, the accumulated temperature required by sea-island cotton is higher than that of upland cotton, and the accumulated temperature required by medium-maturing varieties of upland cotton is higher than that of early-maturing seeds. In 1973, the observation results of our school's cotton raw material nursery on campus: During the sowing period (April 13), the average growth period from sowing to opening (50% of the planting time) of the island-cotton cotton was 161 days. The average total accumulated temperature of the activities was about 3,953C, and the effective total accumulated temperature was about 1,985C. The average growing period of the early mature varieties of upland cotton was 121 days, and the required accumulated temperature was 2,939”C and 1,454C, respectively; the upland maturing variety of upland cotton was 143. In days, the required accumulated temperatures were 3,549C and 1,844°C, respectively.

This shows that the total accumulated temperature required for sea cucumber cotton from sowing to boll opening is 400-1000C higher than that of upland cotton, and the effective total accumulated temperature is 1401-5300C higher than that of upland cotton; the total accumulated temperature required for upland cotton mid-maturing varieties is 600C higher than that of early-maturing varieties. Around, the effective accumulated temperature is about 400 C higher than that of early-maturing varieties.

Huamian No. 4 was developed from the crossbreeding of Huamian 2 (formerly known as Dongting 159) and E Guangmian. The accumulative temperature required for reproductive growth obviously increases with longer growth periods. For example, the cumulative temperature required for early maturing species of upland cotton is approximately 1,800C, that of medium-maturing species is approximately 2,200C, and that of sea-island cotton is approximately 2,700C; the required effective accumulated temperature is approximately 980C, approximately 1,250°C, and approximately 1,450C.

It can be seen that the difference in accumulated temperature during different growth periods of different cotton varieties and the same cotton variety under general cultivation conditions is due to the difference in accumulative temperature during the reproductive growth period, especially from bud emergence to flowering. This means that the more early the varieties are, the less accumulated temperature is required from buds to bolls, especially budding to flowering, while the difference in accumulated temperature required for other fertility periods is smaller, indicating an important indicator of early maturation of cotton varieties. First, the bud period is shorter, the buds are more concentrated, and the accumulated temperature required is also relatively small.
