Yueyang finds that the couple's buried tombs of the Song Dynasty have rare "love windows"

In the recent news, a Yueyang City Cultural Relics and Archeological Institute launched a rescue archaeological excavation of the Song Dynasty couples and burial tombs in front of a villager's house in the Hujia Formation, Yushan Village, Yueyang Economic Development Zone. At present, excavating pots, lotus petal plates, soul bottles and other objects from the tomb. Huang Jun, director of the Yueyang City Cultural Relics and Archeological Institute, said that the excavation of the tombs, regardless of specifications or shape, is the highest grade in Yueyang so far.

According to reports, at the beginning of December, a local villager discovered the tomb when he hit the bank in front of his house. On December 13th, Yueyang City Cultural Relics and Archeological Zone entered the arena and began excavation of the tomb. The burial tomb was divided into an anterior chamber and a posterior chamber. The anterior chamber contained mainly buried objects. The total length of the tomb is about 5.2 meters long, 3.8 meters wide and 2.2 meters deep. The building of the tomb is basically similar to that of a dwelling house in the sun. It looks very delicate, indicating that the owner's identity is ostentatious and that he is not the same family. In particular, there is a small door between the two connected tombs, commonly known as the "love window." In ancient times, the “love window” pinned the blessings of marriage after the death of the couple, but it was rare in the tomb. “From the current excavation situation, it is initially determined that this is a joint grave for the couple of the Song Dynasty. This has important archaeological and historical research value for understanding the tombs and funeral customs of the Yueyang region at that time.” Huang Jun said. At present, the epitaph of the tomb has not yet been discovered and the excavation work continues.
