Heavy water can help improve the efficiency of perovskite solar cell devices

It is reported that Ankur Solanki of Nanyang Technological University uses H2O as an additive basis, and at the same time selects heavy water D2O that has never been involved in perovskite research. When the concentration of the additive is 1 vol%, the device efficiency increases from 19.2% 20.8%, through the morphology study, we can observe that D2O can successfully passivate the surface defects of the perovskite, and the film does not have any obvious morphological changes, and the carrier dynamics have also changed. Research provides a concise and easy-to-understand method of operation. On April 30, the method was published in the top journal Advanced Materials as a paper.
In general, the perovskite solar cell prepared by D2O as an additive has a photoelectric conversion efficiency close to 21% and has good stability and negligible JV curve hysteresis. As the concentration of additives increases, the device performance and fluorescence lifetime are significantly improved at 1 vol%. At the same time, the diffusion length of the charge carriers also correspondingly reduces the phonon frequency of PBI6 in the deuterated FA perovskite lattice, which helps to stabilize the PBI6 structure and weaken the electron phonon coupling, thereby reducing the scattering of charge carriers . This discovery provides a novel and simple method to control and improve the photoelectric performance of halide perovskite devices.
